Stravaigin Lodge near Puck’s Glen
Just an hour and half’s drive from Glasgow airport, Stravaigin Lodge is a 6-person self-catering log cabin sat in a tranquil cluster of 18 privately-owned lodges in the heart of Cowal, Argyll. Situated beside the beautiful Puck’s Glen gorge and a few minutes walk away from Benmore Botanical Gardens it provides a comfortable, relaxed base for exploring the surrounding mountains, rivers, glens and lochs.
The lodge is a perfect starting point for pursuing any number of outdoor activities: hill-walking, cycling and mountain biking, fishing, sailing, spotting wildlife or visiting any of the numerous gardens which Argyll is so well known for due to the high rainfall and mild winters, allowing some unusual species to grow here.
In the area
One of the most frequently visited of these is Benmore Gardens just a mile up the road and which can be reached in three minutes by car or on foot along an old disused section of the A815 that runs along behind the Lodges. Or if you fancy a 20-minute drive to the Isle of Bute, which we most highly recommend, then a definite must-do is a visit to Mount Stuart House and Gardens.
If climbing hills is your thing then you are just 30 minutes away from the nearest Munro (Beinn Ime) and the rest of the “Arrochar Alps”. Further north there are the Cruachan Hills surrounded on both sides by Loch Awe and Loch Etive
Of course, there is also the option of doing very little indeed and getting the chance to relax in the lodge itself which has been praised for its comfort and cleanliness.
We have two double rooms (one with television) and a twin room, our lounge is fitted with a hi-fi, television and DVD player and comes stocked with a variety of board games, DVDs, CDs and books.
